Configuration & Settings Management

The ability to modify end users' computer environments from a central location allows schools, businesses, and other organizations to respond to different demands as rapidly as they arise. Configuration and Settings Management differs from Remote Deployment in that it is concerned with modifying the existing user environment rather than adding or removing components.

Changing local and global passwords for both user and administrator accounts is critical in maintaining the security of your computing environment. Additionally, the time elapsed until screen savers are activated, as well as the requirement that users provide passwords, greatly strengthens the security of the data at end users' computers. The ability to sleep or shut down idle machines is helpful to organizations trying to combat rising energy costs.

Composer and Casper

  • Composer can create packages of any setting in the Macintosh OS so that they can be delivered remotely using Casper. Casper can also be used to remotely create local accounts, bind accounts with Directory Services, and change local user and administrator passwords. These activities can be made live to machines currently in use or scheduled to occur when you or your staff dictate.
