Many of our regular JAMF Nation readers are not yet users and are keen to learn about our solutions, or to discover how to best support Macs in their organization. While we have a number of resources online such as our PDF Library, Media Library, Knowledge Base, and Mailing List, we know that nothing beats a live demo. However, making time for a full overview can be difficult. We understand the challenge of coordinating all the individuals for a first glimpse of a product so we've scheduled a weekly live demonstration every Monday at 2pm CDT (-6 GMT) beginning next Monday, August 25th.

Have you had a chance to see the newly expanded privileges in version 6.0 of the Casper Suite?

Most of the new privileges that can be assigned are there to allow more granular control of what resources a Casper Administrator is allowed to access in the JAMF Software Server. For example, privileges can now be set to allow a JSS user to manage Licensed Software and Saved Searches, but still prevent them from changing the suppressed items in the databases, or altering other important JSS settings. Or, users can now be granted access to managed PreStages for imaging, and Smart Groups, but not access Restricted Software settings or Policies.

Additionally, the new options for assigning roles can be used with LDAP groups to simplify your account management. Roles can be assigned to Open Directory or Active Directory groups - for example, you can grant a set of privileges to the Help Desk staff, and another set of distinct privileges to the deployment team. Team members that are members of both groups will also receive both sets of privileges when they log in!
