Greetings

Capser LogoWWDC is coming right up and we’ll be there! Plan to join us for a Casper User Group (CUG) on Tuesday, June 10 at the Serrano Hotel from 6-9 pm. If you’d like to come early, we will host an open lab to give you some hands-on time with laptops and JAMF Systems Engineers from 5-6 pm. Then, starting at 6 pm, we will move into the Casper User Group with a short presentation of the new features found in Version 6 of the Casper Suite, which will be released to the public in July.

We hope you can stop by for a drink and a bite, hang out, find out what’s new at JAMF Software, and tell us how you’re doing! Space is limited, so please register for this event by dropping an email to Nell Hurley at nell@jamfsoftware.com.

For those of you who are not yet using the Casper Suite, we’d like to invite you to a Casper Suite “Lunch and Learn” session in San Francisco during WWDC from 12-2 pm on Tuesday, June 10 at the Serrano Hotel. Join us for lunch and learn how the Casper Suite can simplify your life with one tool to inventory, image, update, and maintain your Macintosh network. Space is limited, so please register for this event by dropping an email to Nell Hurley at nell@jamfsoftware.com.

Check out our latest case study to find out how Siddartha Chadda of OLSON used the Casper Suite to roll out Adobe's CS3.

Other Summer Events
The recent CCA course that was held in Minneapolis was a huge success! We graduated 13 new Certified Casper Administrators and sent them out into the world fully equipped to take advantage of the full breadth and depth of the Casper Suite’s functionality.

The next CCA course will be held in Chicago on June 24-27. This 4-day course is a hands-on series of exercises where challenges are presented to system administrators to demonstrate their proficiency through resolution. Click here to register or for more information.

JAMF Software will host a Casper User Group in Chicago on Wednesday, June 25 at Eduardo’s Natural Pizza from 6-8 pm. Space is limited, so please register for this event by dropping an email to Nell Hurley at nell@jamfsoftware.com.
Focus on Education

If you work in education, then your summer “To Do” list may look something like this:
1.   Upgrade 20 Xserves to 10.5
2.   Image and deploy 1,200 new iMacs
3.   Reimage 5,800 Macbooks
4.   Organize the garage
Well, worry not! The Casper Suite makes it easy to image machines and manage updates, allowing your district or university to grow its Mac population without growing your IT budget. (And you might even finally get that garage project done). Click here for more information about the Casper Suite and Education.

Question

Networks Segments are defined in the JSS and can be used to automatically assign a workstation's closest File Server, Software Update Server or NetBoot Server. If your network is setup so that a specific building or department is within a network range, you can also configure this information to be set dynamically. Whenever a managed workstation connects to the JSS, a check is done to see if the computer 's IP address is in any defined Network Segments, and updates inventory and server information accordingly.

You can view any Network Segments you may already have setup in your JSS or add new ones by navigating to the 'Admin' tab in your JSS and clicking the link for 'Network Segments'. For a more detailed description of configuring Network Segments for your environment, check out the Casper Suite 5.1 Documentation available at from our website or lulu.com.

By the way, did you know you can purchase a printed and bound copy of the Casper Suite manual from lulu.com for $14.99 plus shipping and handling?

Join our Support Mailing List! The lists often contain discussions regarding problems encountered by other Casper administrators and their resolutions. This free service is available to customers and non-customers via subscription and includes both the Casper Suite and Composer mailing lists.

"Before using Casper, we didn't have confidence during installs and supporting end users meant interrupting their work. Now with the Casper Suite, we're pushing software updates out within minutes, we're providing support without downtime, and our end users realize that they're not seeing us much anymore."
