Casper Suite 8.3 released, compatible with iOS 5
On the same day that iOS 5 was released last week, we were pleased to release version 8.3 of the Casper Suite to ensure that administrators have the tools they need to manage iOS 5 devices as they arrive.
With the much-anticipated build up to the release of iOS 5 and iPhone 4S, we heard from IT administrators that they needed to be ready as new devices would be arriving in their organizations within days. With the many new opportunities to take advantage of enhanced management capabilities in iOS 5, we understood that it would be crucial to make updated solutions available immediately after release
All current customers should have received notification from their JAMF Software account representatives at this point, so we anticipate that many of you are already using Casper Suite 8.3. For those who have not yet had a chance to install Casper Suite 8.3, here is a quick summary of the new features for iOS and OS X management in this release:
Compatibility with iOS 5
The Casper Suite has been tested to function with iOS 5 and takes advantage of the new capabilities in iOS 5. Administrators can now manage even more settings for iOS devices including settings related to iCloud.
Manage, distribute and remove App Store apps
The Casper Suite is now able to automatically deploy App Store apps to iOS 5 devices using push notifications. Paid apps may also be distributed using Volume Purchase Program (VPP) codes. Additionally, App Store apps may be distributed as managed apps allowing administrators to configure security settings for apps and remove app data. The iOS Self Service interface has been continually improved to include integration with directory services and on-demand installation of Configuration Profiles by end users without requiring administrator involvement.
Configuration Profiles for OS X Lion
The Casper Suite can now set computer-level and user-level Configuration Profiles for OS X Lion computers. Using a similar interface to that used to manage iOS Configuration Profiles, the JSS can now set and deploy Configuration Profiles to OS X Lion computers. Configuration Profiles are compatible with the extensive Managed Preferences settings templates built into the Casper Suite, providing a graceful and seamless upgrade path for organizations upgrading to OS X Lion.
FileVault 2 Compatibility
The Casper Suite now reports on FileVault 2 status for OS X Lion computers within the JSS interface.
Those are just a few of the recent additions to the Casper Suite. We look forward to hearing your feedback once you have a chance to explore further, and encourage you to participate in the Casper Suite mailing list to share your thoughts and discoveries with other members of the community.

JAMF Software National User Conference 2011
As our National User Conference in Minneapolis approaches quickly, we have more exciting developments to share with you this month.
We've announced the remainder of the sessions and will now have over 40 sessions presented by a wide variety of community members. Due to the incredible response from the many knowledgeable people who have stepped up to volunteer, we've added even more sessions than we originally intended. The National User Conference will now include over 40 sessions over the course of three days. We're guessing you'll see some familiar faces, as well as meet some people for the first time face-to-face.
In addition to the presenters who have generously volunteered their time and expertise, we've been fortunate to have a full slate of partners sign on to sponsor the event. Our friends at Code 42, Adobe and Parallels will be joining us for a number of sessions and to participate throughout the conference. We're thrilled that they will be in attendance and will be bringing their expertise about how enterprise organizations can deploy and manage of their great software.
Finally, we'll be previewing the new JAMF Software community project for the first time at the National User Conference. There has been a lot of interest in this project, and we're excited to preview it publicly. We can't think of a better place to do that than in person with so many of you who will be traveling from around the world to be at this conference.
Here are just a few of the new session topics added since the last edition of the JAMF Nation newsletter:
- JAMF Software Community Project Preview
- Integrating Adobe's IT Tools into Your Casper Suite Workflow
- Managing Configuration Profiles for OS X Lion
- Integrating the Casper Suite into In-House App Development Cycles
- Encrypting your Macs with FileVault 2
If you haven't already booked your ticket, please take a moment to register on our website and let us know you will be attending. If you're already planning to come, please consider inviting a colleague or peer. We truly believe that the most valuable aspect of any conference is the generous sharing of knowledge and expertise by the community, and we would love to see you here in Minneapolis.

JAMF Software Regional User Conferences
Following the National User Conference, we will once again be hosting a series of single-day events in various cities between December 2011 and March 2012. If you're not able to make it to Minneapolis for the National User Conference, we're hoping these smaller events will bring a sample of the conference to a city closer to you.
If you attended any of these events last year, you'll know that these single-day events feature abbreviated versions of some of the presentations from the National User Conference and an opportunity to gather with IT administrators in your area in a smaller setting.
We have announced the first four Regional User Conferences in the following cities:
We would like to invite you join us as we gather with members of the JAMF Software community at one of these events in your area. In order to ensure a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere, we are limiting attendance for this event. Please register in advance if you plan on attending.

Casper Suite Demo
Many of our regular JAMF Nation readers are not yet users and are keen to learn about our solutions, or to discover how to best support Macs in their organization. While we have a number of resources online such as our PDF Library, Video Library, Knowledge Base, and Mailing List, we know that nothing beats a live demo. However, making time for a full overview can be difficult. We understand the challenge of coordinating all the individuals for a first glimpse of a product so we've scheduled a weekly live demonstration every Monday at 2:00 pm Central Time.
To register for any of these events visit our Events calendar and select the date you'd like to participate and register. Thanks for your interest and we look forward to the opportunity to share our solutions with you.
