Musings from Macworld 2010 and Casper Suite 7.2
-
We're happy to report that all of the dozen plus JAMFs that descended upon San Francisco for Macworld last week safely returned to their homes. We even found weary travellers from the Mid Atlantic part of the US who braved snowstorms to make the trip. Dear Mid Atlantic Blizzard survivors....welcome to Minnesota. We do this every winter!
There were mixed expectations about what this event would bring and we were pleased to see so many new faces at our booth, User Group and Brunch & Learn event we hosted for the Mac IT track attendees. While there are a number of perspectives on it, here's a perspective that we find particularly interesting.
For those who couldn't make it there are some things you should know. Our Resource Kit was updated in January, and among a number number of cool things, we've updated the NetInstall Image Creator to ensure compatibility with 10.6. We also debuted and demonstrated Casper Suite 7.2 throughout the week and we've taken some key steps to extend the functionality and integration with other common technologies via extension attributes. We posted a couple of videos while at Macworld for you as well. First, Chip Pearson, Managing Partner, shares his thoughts on the upcoming release while Jonah Klevesahl, Senior Systems Engineer, shares his screen from the show floor to give you a sneak peak of what's to come in Casper Suite 7.2.
Finally, a sincere thank you to our team at JAMF who helped organize and execute the weeklong affair, as well as to our hosts from IDG, the media, our development, Channel partners and all of our customers who made time for a visit. There are very few places we go where we can catch up with all of you who make up our community.

When you install the JSS you will notice that there are a few canned policies, one of them being "Update Management Framework." The management framework lives on each client machine and is a combination of scheduled tasks, black lists, and scripts which drive the behaviour of the client machine in relation to the JSS. As such, you will want to update the Management Framework whenever you make changes to the Management Framework Settings, add restricted software, or create new scheduled tasks. In addition to these maintenance reasons, we also suggest that you keep the policy that updates the Management Framework at start up or once a week.
To find out more about what the Management Framework does check out the Casper Suite Documentation starting on page 166!

Casper Suite Demo
Many of our regular JAMF Nation readers are not yet users and are keen to learn about our solutions, or to discover how to best support Macs in their organization. While we have a number of resources online such as our PDF Library, Video Library, Knowledge Base, and Mailing List, we know that nothing beats a live demo. However, making time for a full overview can be difficult. We understand the challenge of coordinating all the individuals for a first glimpse of a product so we've scheduled a weekly live demonstration every Monday at 2:00 pm CST (GMT -6:00).
To register for any of these events visit our Events calendar and select the date you'd like to participate and register. Thanks for your interest and we look forward to the opportunity to share our solutions with you.
